The Mayor of Amajuba District Municipality, Cllr Dr. Musa Ngubane accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of Emadlangeni Local Municipality and the Department of Education Officials on the 25th April 2019 visited Enzimane Combined School at Emadlangeni and Ubuhlebomzinyathi High School in Newcastle.
The visit is part of the follow-up programme of the KwaZulu-Natal Operation Sukuma Sakhe School Functionality Monitoring Programme and Cabinet Day. Earlier in the year, these schools were visited by the KZN government and some issues were identified for urgent intervention. Amongst issues identified was the need to support the Grade 12 Class with the study materials such as calculators because many of the learners of these schools come from poverty-stricken families and the parents or guardians are unable to purchase these study tools for their kids.
The Mayor during this visit donated these calculators and other gadgets to these schools. Some of these items were donated by other donors who are always willing to partner with our government in support of community development.
The learners, SGB members, and teachers welcomed this gesture by the Mayor and promised that the Class of 2019 will use these to improve their results.
